Research Interests

The ultimate goal of nuclear astrophysics is to understand how nuclear processes generate the energy of stars over their lifetimes and, in doing so, synthesize heavier elements from the primordial hydrogen and helium produced in the Big Bang. A close interplay among stellar modeling, nuclear physics, and astronomical observation is essential in order to achieve the best understanding. In my research, I utilize the available facilities and experimental technologies, combined with the latest nuclear theory, to determine those nuclear reaction data with strong astrophysical significance. I am also interested in developing new experimental techniques and equipments for the proposed U.S. radioactive beam facility. The experiments are carried out with the local accelerators at Notre Dame as well as the national user facilities such as ATLAS accelerator at Argonne National Laboratory.
