The graduate
program in physics at Notre Dame is primarily directed toward the
degree of Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.). While programs leading
to the degree of Master of Science are also available, preference
for admission is given to those applicants who have the ability
and intention to become candidates for the Ph.D. degree. At present
there are about 100 graduate students in physics. Entering
graduate students are selected on the basis of their academic record,
scores on the Graduate Record Examination, and the recommendations
of scientists who are acquainted with their undergraduate work.
