Professor Mike Hildreth is the 2014 Shilts/Leonard Award recipient. The Shilts/Leonard award is the premier teaching award within the College of Science.
Prof. Hildreth is an experimental high energy physicist who joined the university in 2000. His primary physics interest is in discovering and understanding the mechanism or mechanisms responsible for Electroweak Symmetry Breaking. In 2010, Prof. Hildreth was honored with the Thomas P. Madden Award as the Outstanding First Year Instructor and in 2008 he received the Rev. Joyce Award for Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching.
Established in 1993, the Shilts/Leonard Award recognizes outstanding teaching in memory of Rev. James L. Shilts, C.S.C., a longtime Notre Dame astronomy and astrophysics professor who died in 1982. The award was endowed by Eugene T. Leonard, a surgeon and 1940 alumnus of the University.
