McNanna and Prof. Kolda, Dept Chair

The fourth annual Hichwa Research Fellowship has been awarded to Mitch McNanna. McNanna will be doing research with Professor Mark Caprio, a theoretical nuclear physicist, in support of his Senior Honors Thesis. McNanna is writing a testbed code to develop the natural orbitals method, from quantum chemistry, into a method which can be applied in nuclear physics.

In Prof. Caprio’s letter of nomination for McNanna for the fellowship he noted that he demonstrated real mastery, problem solving skills, and was always one of the most constructive contributors to class discussions.

Prof. Bryant Hichwa is a 1973 Notre Dame physics Ph.D. who was advised by Prof. Paul Chagnon in the nuclear physics research group.
