Jeff Peng, Associate Professor of Chemistry and Biochemistry with a concurrent appointment in Physics, was recently elected to the Executive Committee for the annual Experimental NMR Conference (ENC). The ENC began in 1960 as a forum for students and experts in NMR spectroscopy to meet and discuss developments in NMR spectroscopy. It is the key international meeting for presentation of new NMR methods and instrumentation across a myriad of fields, including bioscience, chemical science, physics, and computation.

Prof. Peng is an expert in multi-dimensional NMR, particularly as it applies to studies at the interface of physical and biological sciences. His research group uses NMR and computation to learn how the internal atomic motions of bio-molecules impact their function and evolution. His work focuses on developing and applying spectroscopic methods which will expand our fundamental understanding of signaling interactions and sequence evolution to include conformational ensembles and dynamics. His most recent publications highlight these techniques for the study of Pin1a, a protein relevant for breast cancer progression, and for the BlaR1 sensor domain, a key protein regulator of the β-lactam antibiotic resistance response in Staphylococcus aureus b.
