Dr. Beard’s research is centered around the study of nuclear reactions that are crucial for understanding the synthesis of elements in stars. Of particular interests are exotic fusion reactions which are thought to occur between neutron-rich nuclei at the extremes of density encountered in the crusts of neutron stars and the cores of white dwarfs. Her research also encompasses the calculation of neutron capture reactions for various stellar scenarios, as well as using the latest experimental data to simulate stellar burning processes.
