Commissioning the CMS Electromagnetic Calorimeter

The Notre Dame group is heavily involved in the commissioning and operation of the CMS electromagnetic calorimeter. I will describe the design and construction of both the detector and the associated hardware and software needed to make it work. In the past several months the detector has been commissioned with both cosmic rays and beam halo events. I will describe some of this work and review the current status.
