Experimental Nuclear Research at a Primarily Undergraduate Institution (4 decades of fun!)
Prof. Stephen Padalino
The State University of New York at Geneseo
Conducting experimental nuclear physics research at a primarily undergraduate institution presents unique challenges and opportunities. This presentation will delve into one such project undertaken by our 25-member research team over the past five summers (equivalent to one research year) at the State University of New York at Geneseo accelerator labs, Houghton University and Laboratory for Laser Energetics (LLE) at the University of Rochester. The project involved developing three detectors capable of measuring cross sections for light ion nuclear reactions using lithium and deuterium projectiles generated through inertial confinement fusion and target normal sheath acceleration at LLE.
