Astrophysical Tests of Neutrino-Antineutrino Asymmetry

Neutrinos and antineutrinos do not normally convert into one another. However, in the presence of certain background fields, a helicity flip can occur, leading to neutrino–antineutrino oscillations. Such lepton number violating processes are closely tied to mechanisms of neutrino mass generation. In this talk, I will discuss two types of backgrounds—the magnetic field and a Majoron dark matter field—that can induce such an effect, and I will show how they can be probed using solar, supernova, and ultra–high-energy neutrinos.
