Freimann Professor of Physics Michael Wiescher, Associate Research Professor James deBoer, and their collaborators were the lead authors of a paper titled "Quantum Physics of Stars" which was accepted by the APS Reviews of Modern Physics. The topic primarily addresses the subject of near threshold quantum configurations in nuclear reaction processes in stellar burning which can have profound impact on nuclear reaction rates. The topic has gained considerable interest in recent years and will be the subject of a special workshop scheduled for late August 2026 at the Institute for Nuclear Theory at the University of Washington, which will be chaired by Prof. Wiescher.
