Prof. Umesh Garg has been selected a Fulbright Specialist in Physics Education for a five-year term.
The Fulbright Specialist Program promotes linkages between U.S. scholars and professionals and their counterparts at host institutions overseas. The program awards grants to qualified U.S. faculty and professionals, in select disciplines, to engage in short-term collaborative projects at eligible institutions in over 140 countries worldwide.
As a Fulbrighter, Prof. Garg joins the ranks of distinguished scholars and professionals worldwide who are leaders in the educational, political, economic, social, and cultural lives of their countries. His first grant under the program will take him to the Indian Institute of Technology at Gandhinagar (IIT-GN), India. He will help the IIT-GN faculty to critically examine the current pedagogical methods and course content, and to work towards combining structured teaching and research elements in Physics courses. He will also help undergraduate students to explore various REU programs in order to get adequate international experience as part of their training.
The Fulbright Program was established in 1946 under legislation introduced by then-Senator J. William Fulbright of Arkansas, and is sponsored by the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs.
