Tending the Fire: Results from the BASS Survey on Black Hole Growth in the Local Universe

Accreting supermassive black holes are among the most luminous sources of radiation in the Universe and are thought to play an important role in the evolution of their host galaxies. Hard X-ray emission (>10 keV) can trace even highly obscured accreting supermassive black holes. I will present an overview of the BASS survey (www.bass-survey.com) which is performing an all-sky study of the brightest and most powerful hard X-ray detected accreting supermassive black holes. I will review recent results from the largest survey to date of molecular gas in the host galaxies of accreting supermassive black holes.
