Cooperation problem: Examples, enforcements and thermodynamic foundations

Dr. Sanasar Babajanyan
Visiting Fellow, Computational Biology Branch
National Institutes of Health

Cooperation is ubiquitous in many aspects of life. Despite its cost, it survived natural selection. Research into its causes and mechanisms is an active interdisciplinary field. In this talk, I will make a short introduction to the cooperation problem. The roots of the problem will be discussed, along with its subsequent development. From viruses to mammals, I will provide examples of cooperative behavior at different scales in biology. Then, we will discuss various enforcement mechanisms for cooperation. The final section of the talk will focus on thermodynamic foundations of the cooperation problem.
