International Travel: Five things faculty and staff should know before going

Notre Dame International (NDI) provides support not only to students travelling abroad and to visitors coming to campus, but also to faculty and staff as they travel on behalf of the university. The NDI International web site contains information and links that even experienced travelers will find useful.

Specifically, here are five things that faculty and staff should know before travelling abroad:

  1. Know how to plan your tripl. Read and consider each item on the State Department Traveler’s Checklist.
  2. Keep in the know when you go. All U.S. citizens should enroll in the U.S. State Department Smart Traveler Enrollment Program at STEP registration allows the State Department to communicate in the event of an emergency. (Non-U.S. citizens should contact their home-country government to inquire about available registration and support.)

  4. Know AIG Travel Assist. Travel Assist is a complimentary travel assistance program available to all faculty and staff undertaking Notre Dame sponsored travel. (ND sponsored travel is travel actvitiy that is funded in any part by ND, receives academic credit from ND, or is done under the auspices of ND in which the traveler represents the University.) Resources include security travel alerts for your trip, medical translation and drug equivalencies, customized health information, and country/city reports.
