Statement of Shared Values
Statement of Shared Values
The Department of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Notre Dame is committed to building and sustaining a welcoming culture of respecful collaboration and scientific excellence.
The study and application of physics and astronomy are collective intellectual pursuits, and we welcome and support all who participate in our community, irrespective of individual differences (e.g., personality, learning styles, and life experiences) and group/social differences. We are committed to an environment free from harassment and the perpetuation of negative preconceived ideas.
Our community includes physics faculty, staff, graduate students, and undergraduate physics majors, as well as students who interact with us through our courses and others through the department’s outreach. Family, visitors, and collaborators are also considered as being impacted by our community.
The department’s Committee on Values and Excellence aids in this effort by research, the promotion of best practices, and engaging the community in thoughtful conversation. We encourage our community to strive for awareness, to abide by the University code of conduct, and to be willing to address issues of values and community by taking constructive actions.
